Local Organizations
Refuge Recovery (12 step) group in Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti
This is similar to a 12-step group but open to people with any type of addiction. The meetings include meditation and are based on the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path and other Buddhist principles. It was started by Noah Levine (son of Stephen Levine) and is a national organization, found at http://www.refugerecovery.org. The program is based on a book by Noah Levine entitled “Refuge Recovery”. Southern Dharma
Is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western NC, about 1 hour by car northwest of Asheville. SDRC offers silent, teacher-led retreats in a variety of Buddhist traditions from March-Dec each year.

Mid America Dharma, located in Kansas City, MO, is a non-profit organization dedicated to making the practice of vipassana or Insight Meditation available in the central region of the United States, retreats and classes.
IMS Retreat Center and Forest Refuge
